During the General Election 2019 campaign, Home for Good launched an open letter calling on the new government to end the use of inappropriate accommodation such as B&Bs, bedsits, caravan parks and canal-boats.
Our latest update – March 2023
In March 2023, the Government announced a ban on all unregulated accommodation for young people in care. Government regulations include an acknowledgement of supported lodgings with regulations designed to enable its flourishing.
An update - March 2022
In November 2021, we published a new report called Brimming with Potential, which makes a compelling case for increased investment in supported lodgings provision for young people in care aged 16+. Building on the work done through our Five Star campaign, this report offers supported lodgings as a solution to the issue of inappropriate accommodation.

In November 2019, together with Home for Good, Baroness Sherlock kindly hosted a gathering in the House of Lords whereby a group of experts – including care-experienced advocates – met and discussed ways to end the use of inappropriate accommodation for children in care. Through our learning from this event and following consultation with many others, we have produced an interim report as part of the Five Star campaign which makes recommendations to the Government.
