Dear Secretary of State for Education,

It’s time to end the use of boats, caravans and B&Bs for children in care. These children and young people have already experienced challenges that no one should have to face. They don’t need their lives to be made harder by being denied the love and care they need to flourish.

In the first 100 days of Government, will you create a comprehensive strategy to end the use of inappropriate accommodation and invest to ensure that every vulnerable young person receives the appropriate care they need?

Yours sincerely,

Ask your prospective MPs to pledge their support if elected

When you've filled in the open letter, why not contact your Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) to pledge their support? We've created a handy tool to help you know who your candidates are, and drafted an email for you to send to them.

Home for Good is launching this open letter following a rapid review of the use of inappropriate accommodation for children and young people in the care system. We have consulted with sector stakeholders and co-hosted a roundtable in the House of Lords to explore possible solutions to this issue. This open letter will be presented to the new government alongside the five-star report which will make recommendations to ensure that every child receives truly five-star care; because children deserve better.

Sign up to the five-star campaign above and you will also be the first to read our report.

The Bishop of Gloucester, the Right Revd Rachel Treweek said, “Every young person has the right to safe, secure housing. These vulnerable young people should be provided with a place they can call home, with appropriate support, regardless of their circumstance or background.”

The Bishop of Truro, the Right Revd Philip Mountstephen said, “The mark of a compassionate society must be how well we treat our most vulnerable, young people included. On that measure we are sadly failing.’”

Could you foster a teenager?

Teenagers in care are one of the groups most in need of fostering families who can offer a safe, stable and loving home where they can thrive.
